About Me: A Mississippi Studies Blog

Welcome to my personal blog, where I delve into the past and present of Mississippi. Join me as I share my insights on the state's history, culture, and more, on a journey through the Magnolia State.

🌸 About Me

👋 Welcome!

Hello! I’m Ms. Williams, an eighth-grade Social Studies teacher at Coleman Middle School. I currently teach Mississippi Studies and World Geography, where my goal is to help students explore how history, geography, and culture shape the world around them — starting right here in our own state.

💡 My Teaching Philosophy

I believe learning should be interactive, inclusive, and inspiring. Every student brings unique experiences and perspectives to the classroom, and it’s my job to create lessons that connect those perspectives to real-world understanding.
Through hands-on activities, storytelling, and technology tools like Google Earth, Blooket, and Edpuzzle, I aim to make social studies come alive for my students.

🌍 Why I Created Magnolia Moments

I started this blog to give students, parents, and the community a window into our classroom learning journey.
Magnolia Moments is a space to:

  • Celebrate student work and learning milestones.

  • Share classroom news and upcoming projects.

  • Offer educational resources and updates.

  • Highlight Mississippi’s history, economy, and geography in creative ways.

Each post reflects a moment of growth — a “magnolia moment” — where learning blooms into curiosity and pride.

❤️ Beyond the Classroom

When I’m not teaching, I love spending time with family, exploring Mississippi’s small towns, visiting historical sites, and discovering new books about Southern culture. I also enjoy creating classroom materials and collaborating with other teachers to bring fresh ideas into social studies education.
